How to get wheel chair on Terminal 3, Delhi Airport

Recently i had to drop a senior citizen at airport who was traveling alone to Abu-Dhabi from Delhi via indigo Airlines. There is paid wheelchair service readily available at airport for Rs 1100+Tax. The challenge is to get the free wheelchair by airlines. The Airlines does not give any clear instructions on how to get a wheelchair at airport, nor is there any signage.  The signage for wheelchair help is there only in lounge area after gate8, but when you reach there it seems only Indian Airlines and 1-2 others have a reception office there. Now security people at gate8 lounge, told me that i might find indigo staff around gate 5 who may help in this. At Gate 5, i was told that indigo has office at lounge near reception 1. On reaching the indigo office in lounge area near Gate 1, again i was directed to go to gate 5. At this point i lost patience and told the staff on my ordeal of running from gate 8 to gate 1 and all around.  Finally they called wheel chair at office the...

The reasons for traffic mess in delhi

Delhi has become a parking and traffic mess thanks to the mixed use policy implemented in Delhi as per master plan 2021.  The idea was good but because of poor implementation and rampant corruption, it ended up making delhi a mess... AS PER PLAN  Mixed Use: ● To meet the growing demand of commercial activities and overcome the shortfall of available commercial space, a liberalized provision of Mixed Use in residential areas has been adopted adhering to the requisites of the environment, while achieving better synergy between workplace, residence and transportation. ● 2183 streets have been notified by the GNCTD vide notification dated 15.09.06 for local commercial and mixed-use activities. ● Small shops of daily needs have been permitted on ground floor, in residential areas. ACTUAL 1. All kinds of shops have been opened in the garb of mixed use. 2. MCD collected parking charges from the new shops, but provided no extra infrastructure for the same. While on...

How to deal with road accidents

In my 15+ yrs of driving, have had the bad luck of being in many accidents. Mostly at receiving ends, however always I was thankful to god of getting away without any injury. Here is my learnings from my recent accident with a biker - 1. If biker aint the risk of dying and you can get away, please do. Police will harass you crazy. 2. If you are stuck, Take the person to some cheap hospital to reduce liability. 3. Before you pay anything have the biker sign an agreement to no further liability. 4. If its a serious accident, and damage is high, have police file an FIR, and inform your insurance company about it. Recently when going to my office in Gurgaon, on a rainy morning, my nano had an accident with a biker. I was going straight on the road, he wanted to take a left, and from what i understand, we both did not see each other. He collided with the front right, above the tyre fender. Fortunately both were slow, so no major injuries to biker. Immediately picked the person, ...

Onion and sugar economics

Since last few years I have noticed a rapid upward movement in the price of either onion or sugar. Though there is no sudden fall in production or quick increase in demand, still a shortage is created and the prices increased. As almost every person uses these  2 things, one can and should image what does a 10Rs per KG artifical increase translates in monetary terms. Supply of these 2 items are controlled by a major politician of congress party, and yet congress seems to be unaware about the issue, and does not know what to do about it.. Even the import of these 2 items is tightly controlled so that it can be insured that people can be fleeced easily. I just don't want congress winning this time, there is rapid increase in prices, but salary is stuck,,and so is me...

I love tata nano for city

I love tata nano for its practicality in design for the city driving. I have been recommending it to many people and here are the pros and cons - PROS I have driven it till 100 Km/hr comfortably. The turning radius is amazing. Almost like a motor bike. So makes it very easy to manoeuvre in city jams and sharp turns. Decent pickup for 2 people and a small car. Enough room in front passenger seat to sit comfortably cross legged. Good A/C when there are two or 1 people are sitting. Cheap maintenance - All parts are cheap. Excellent ground clearance - Goes excellently over bad roads and big speed breakers, without scraping bottom. CONS Noise - The cabin is noisy with the rear mounted engine. Brakes - Having all drum brakes, make the braking a little sluggish. A/C -in 40+ temperature and with 2+ people it becomes completely ineffective. No left rear view mirror - Added in recent model. Bad average - I get an average of barely 14, even on my best driving. But this has...

The flower thieves

I have seen many people plucking flowers from the other peoples garden or from public gardens. On confronting these people, the general answer is that they are plucking the flowers for God/Puja. Does god want us to pluck flowers? Does god teach us to steal flowers from public or other peoples gardens? How religion has made people twisted and dumb, this is a classic example of that. How people are lazy and looking for short cuts even in prayers, is totally appalling.

Does god need gold?

There are numerous examples to people donating huge amounts to temples and they do the following - Display the temple wealth - gold dome, other things Eat it up - The pandas/priests running the place eat up all the money and the worship place continues a mess. Display+charity - Little charity, some construction and that's about it. Why do people donate- Can one actually bribe god? Do we consider ourselves that great to give god donation? Create a better worshiping area. Spread the gods message and word. Have the temple authorities use the money for common good. What should we do if we want to do charity -  Feed the poor/needy. Cloth the poor/needy. Educate the poor/needy. Give medicines to poor/needy. What happens if we do the right charity - Avoid corruption in religious places. The overall frustration and pains in the society goes down. My thoughts and open to debate and expand..

Ownership for a disaster

In today's world it is hard to find somebody taking ownership when things go wrong, however there is no shortage of people to take ownership when something goes very well. People do not even shy away from claiming success for someone else's hardwork. Such shamelessness is considered as being smart now a days. With public memory being short combined with the people who do not want to trouble their brains, such people can now a days can easily get away. Its easy to find people blaming everyone except themselves for something that went wrong. Till the time we have a clear ownership, we cannot improve and progress. People have the unique ability to justify anything (atleast to themselves)

Sides of a table

I have seen very few people who can logically think for both sides of the table.. Most people when they have power are more inclined to display/show/use the superiority than thinking about the person at the other end of the table. However, history and time have shown that tables do turn, nothing is constant. Those who did not think about others when in power, do not have anybody besides them when they loose it. Such people can be found more often cursing how the entire world has become selfish and is acting against them. An example of tables turning which i find funny is that the Britishers introduced Tea to India, and then an indian company -TATA ends up buying Tetley. This is in addition to Jaguar and Corus..

Think negative a lot- that shall happen

Our thoughts and sub conscious mind have much more power and effect that we credit it with. If you have a positive mindset, it is only a matter of time when it happens. It's important to be at it and put in the efforts. Similarly if you think negative, it is only a matter of time when it happens. Your sub conscious mind and fears will lead you to it. Time never stops and one can decide if you want to spend it thinking negative or positive. Doing good or bad. Remembering good people or bad people. Worrying or doing something about it. Something negative in the short run many times prove to be beneficial in the longer run, but we need to have patience and think positive. Hold on to our beliefs and values. It's simpler said than done, and it's even hard to practice. The negative magnet has much more power than the positive. Hitler was able to unite the people of Germany on the hatred against the rich Jews and winners of WW1. Had people rejected that and focussed on bu...

The black and white of money

Many people talk about black and white money. Here is my understanding of the same - Black Money- this is the money which people claim to have spent (or not earned) but do not - So effectively this is the money they do not have. Like a businessman may claim that their sales and profits were lesser, to save on tax. So whatever amount that is under reported becomes black money. White Money - Money earned and accounted for. Like salary coming in the bank account. Now the interesting part, how to make your black money- white and vice versa. White to Black -  NGO donation - Donations to NGO are tax exempt. Many NGO just take a cheque of white money and give you cash. This is done at some service charge. Black to white Someone gives you a cheque against cash. This can be shown as payment received against some service or product. As the economy is one whole, so white to black is balanced by those wanting Black to white.

Pathetic service of Standard Chartered Bank India

Standard Chartered Bank India : I decided to try stan chart's super value card as it offered a cash back on bills. So i thought any savings however small is worth it. I could not have been more wrong. When my credit card was made, my mobile was entered without +91 in the system. It is apparently mandatory as their sms sending fails in that case. I came to know this when i went ahead and tried to login to online banking. Next tried to register some billers as that was the main reason for getting this card. Once the billers are added they never get confirmed. Even after 1.5 months. Emailing them generally gets a dumb response, which may not be even related to what you are asking. Calling them is even dumber as telecallers do not have your history or account information. They just ask you to email incase you ask some clarification. I have tried so many credit cards, but still citibank seems to be the best in terms of overall service. Pathetic bank and pathetic service....

Relationships and epics

I was thinking how different is the teachings of Ramayana and Mahabharata when it comes to relationships and families. Ramayana teaches to give, even at your expense. So Ram agreed to 14 yrs exile. Mahabharata on the other hand teaches you to do the right thing. So you fight with your brother's etc, to take what is rightfully yours. Ramayana and Mahabharata were both because of hurt male ego at the hands of women. We somehow fail to estimate how powerful a force that is. While Rama was the king in Ramayana, in Mahabharata Krishna was the king maker. So essentially with time it taught us that being the king maker is more important than being the king. As the accountability of a king is much higher, like with Ram, who has to alienate Sita because of social pressures. But in mahabharata draupadi had 5 husbands, and even after the cheer haran incident, she could live with her honor. This shows how just a womens strength can make people around her respect...

pathetic buying experience from goodlife.com

Goodlife.com I made the mistake of buying from them, got a defective product, and now -- I have to send the return, They would issue a gift coupon and not a refund. Thus I am forced into buying something else which i don't really want. Now what kind of policy is this? This is another site to stay away from

Spoon feeding and liars

Recently i am hearing about lots of people who - Want to be spoon fed. - They would not do anything proactively, you need to make a personal request to them for official work, else they will not oblige and act busy. They can get away because of  dumb management. Lie with confidence - Not afraid to say anything even in official emails. When you confront more they act ignorant or have some even more lame excuses. As such discussions are fruitless and time wasting,   people just tend to ignore and people get away with this, further strengthening their resolve My dad was in government job, and though it had its fair share of people who belonged to the first category, the second category was very very less. The government job is still bound by some vigilance which can act in complete autonomy and thus even in all the chaos and size, there is some order.  The private organizations which have increased beyond a basic size and geography provide an environment...

When to act??

There are two distinct theories which discuss when to act on a problem - Stitch in time saves nine - Act as soon as you see an issue, else it grows further and cause more problems later. Ripen the fruit before eating - wait till the issue evolves, Once a problem is evolved and becomes prominent, then dealing with it becomes easier and quicker. The decision to act or not is already out of the question, so it becomes easier to tackle with little opposition. Approach 2 is definitely a safer approach, but it takes more time and might takes up more resources. However for those whom resource conservation is less important than risk, this approach is advised. This approach is also safer as sometimes the problem gets resolved in its own way and you may not be required to do anything. Approach 2 is also something that rings more in the Indian way of things - Jo bhi ho raha hai acche ki liye ho raha hai, (There might be an unknown good in whatever is happening.)...

Hot-case or Nut-case

Here is the problem statements - Employees want something in office to heat food. 300 Employees approx. (not all being food from home) Existing microwave becomes faulty. Probable cause is people keeping foil and steel utensils. Solution Install a hot case. Benefits - Cheap Less fault prone - People can use foil/steel utensils. More space Less electricity consumption. A perfect solution, only problem is that the Hot-case is just not used. This is what happens when the focus is on the problem and not on meeting the objective.
