Cross browser compatibility

Many people often ask me to have the website tested on all browsers and all versions to ensure all of the users of any of the browsers have a good experience of the site. The only problem with this approach is that the effort taken is very high, and new browser versions almost come our every few weeks. The best way to ensure cross browser compatibility is to ensure that your HTML and CSS is validated and follows the specifications. The JS should be clean. More suggestions?

Satyam debacle

All now know that Satyam has crashed, a case of inflated books, sounds like ENRON to me, i am wondering how was it pulled off. Is it that easy? What did the auditor do? For those who dont know auditors are the famous PWC-  pricewaterhousecoopers. Now more questions - Are the software outsourcing industry margins that low? Satyam was operating in a market, they could not be possible charging too low. Now we have more than 50,000 employees of Satyam joining in the job market. What will happen to Indian IT industry now? So now more gloom for the Indian software industry and economy. I have also posted ...

Virtual software appliances

Read this article http://www.cio.com/article/170051/Virtual_Software_Appliances_Why_They_Could_End_Deployment_Hell_ and thought wow, this sounds like reality, an idea which can really click in the time to come. Coming to think of it, deploying an app which has 2-3 components, then configuring it on your machine and then doing installation is a long and painful step. So you have a ready made virtual machine which can be up and running in 5 mins. All pain of installation and deployment just goes away. Taking backups of VM is also a breeze and incase anything happens going back to the last point is also very easy. Some of the points that go against it are- People want a unique mix. For e.g. someone like IIS and others like weblogic. Anything else?
